The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“The believer is not given to cursing, slandering or obscene and foul speech.”

To each their own Fatima (Khalil and I are on the same page with this one) . But then again, I could have complete hell-raisers Allaahu ta 3la Alim (and we should really remember this).

When are you getting this book from me for your kids?

Not true. Me and my sisters were never hit and we turned out fine, and I know many others who turned out fine too so no you're wrong in this regard.

No one who is 'fine' (i.e. a good righteous muslim) would ascribe piety to themselves.

Umar al Khattab would not even say that he is 'fine'

So, actually both of you are examples of people who did not turn out good.

Now maybe if your parents had hit you so that you feel some shame in thinking your fine (instead of being so confident), or that you are 'just fine' - you would not feel so confident ascribin piety to yourselves. (there is no other way of being fine, except that you are a righteous person).
And that is just a maybe.

But bottom line, you would have to show someone who really is fine (someone the whole world agrees to their righteousness) - i.e. someone who we can all agree is a righteous person (i.e down to not lying when they joke, or eatig omre then 1/3, to all the other major things) - who did not get hit and was not from the past or a propher - then possibly, i would have to retract my statement

And no, there is no one who was not hit (unless from the first 3 generations, or a propher) who was good.
It seems that you are saying it is a must to hit your children for them to come out good. I guess you know every single Muslim that lived after the 3 generations and whether they were hit or not eh.

uh, you need to lay off the caffeine - when did she ascribe piety to herself? i think she just meant "ok"

anyway, umm rumaisa (and anyone else who doesn't know) don't mind sas

he wasn't hit enough as a child (so i think this proves my point - some children need it :D)

anyway, he usually has a good point somewhere, but he just so enjoys bothering people and "sassing" them

he's lately been too busy to be on the forums, but i guess he's back...

A'salaamu Alaykum,

I will bring it by the DH today, Insha Allah. I have also learned sisters that Safaraz Jamal is all Smoke & Mirrors-he really does mean well (but likes the fight in you).

Don't give him a fight and he will go away silently-and order a glob of cheese from Pizza hut for iftar.

Fatima-Yes, jazzak Allaahu Khairan I got the donations and handed them already to them. Will be going back this Sunday-Insha Allah.

Just so you know where I got this, it was narrated by Muhammad Alshareef (hafidhullah) in the History of the Khulafaa' class.

By the way, I don't necessarily advocate hitting - but, I think in some cases it can be useful and good for kids and even for some kids, necessary. I think most parents today baby their kids waaay too much. Like, their child does something wrong and they either defend their child's action or make excuses for them '"they're just being a kid'". It always rubs me the wrong way to hear that. Some kids need more discipline than others and I think hitting should be considered as one of those disciplinary options. Wallahu 'alam.

Yeah, I actually believe just like you ^^. I do think that other measures should be used first. Talking to the child, warnings, time-outs etc... I also think that recompenses should be offered to those children who get in trouble a lot to encourage them to act better before trying to say our children are idiots.
